trax 2009

TRAX 2009 was one of the most anticipated shows of the season, and with Ken Block headlining and more clubs, stands and attractions than ever before it looked set to raise the bar for years to come.

And thankfully, it didn’t disappoint. Attendance was at a record high and it’s safe to say, the show was a huge success. Ken Block brought his jaw-dropping driving antics to the UK and demonstrated how he’s become such a worldwide phenomenon, with mesmerising car control and tyre-destroying displays; it was a sure-fire winner with the crowds.

The trade area was stacked full of some of the best tuning brands in the industry, including KW Automotive, Yokohama, TAROX and Team Dynamics, who were all showcasing their latest products. Elsewhere, the 0-60 strip was packed, with the winners of the FWD, RWD and 4WD categories each getting a new VI-Monitor for their efforts.

The Redline Nurburgring Power Paddock was packed with a range of tuned cars and was a focal point for the performance-minded, with thousands of horsepower on display from a selection of grip, drift and everyday road cars. KW Automotive, sponsors of the track time, were giving away a free track session on the day to new subscribers to Redline too, which given the cost of a regular track session turned out to be a bargain for those that took advantage.

The JDM Allstars drift series final took the show out on a high, and with a selection of the UK’s best drifters on show, it was a guaranteed smoke-screen. Paul Vlasblom took the win with Driftworks’ Phil Morrison in second, and the general standard of drifting throughout was awesome and it was undoubtedly one of the best drift events ever held at Silverstone.

Also not to be missed were the acres of club stands and other attractions on the day including the Meguirs Park n' Pose area, Thorney Motorsport hot laps in their M3 CSL Cup cars, Lotus exige passenger rides and Monster Ball of Steel motocross display team. There really was something on offer for everyone!

Finally, a thanks to Rude Racing and HEL Performance for sponsoring the show and helping it to be such a success. TRAX brought together a selection of petrolheads, car fanatics and tuners and it was a great end to the 2009 season. Watch out for a full show report in issue 148 of Redline!
